The Nokia N95 Classic (the N95-1) has received another major firmware updated today and is now on v30.0.015!
It is great that Nokia are still offering support for the original N95 adding further compatibility for their new services (especially as they have been also concentrating on their new recent Nseries line up).
The update is available for download via the Nokia Software Updater for most of the generic products codes. N95s that have been operator branded could take a while longer for the update to appear… Read on for the changes!!!
As well as updating the Music DRM capabilities, there is also a host of other improvements including the latest versions of OVI services integrated into the firmware itself and the usual bug fixes.
Nokia Maps has been upgraded to its latest version (2.0), Share Online Version 3 has been preinstalled (and integrates with the active standby screen – as with newer Nseries devices), you will also find the full N-Gage application installed by default which has now replaced the N-Gage preview application.
The N95 now also supports the Auto Screen Rotation feature that was available in the last update for the N95 8GB.
The changelog as reported so far:
- Nokia Maps 2.0 built-in
- Full N-Gage client
- Nokia Search 4.0 with Google plug-in
- Share online 3.0
- Enablers for Comes With Music
- Download! application updated (v 3.1.50)
- Upgrade to Music Player
- Update for Flash Lite 3 (improved viewing of sites like YouTube)
- Current consumption improvements (for e.g. WLAN scanning)
- New baseline for VoIP (with significant error corrections)
It is also expected that a major update will follow for the N95 8GB in the next few days and hopefully support for the likes of the N95-2/4 soon…
*Update: Screenshots highlighting some of the improvements courtesy of All About Symbian and please also visit their article about the update and take part in the discussion!
Surprisingly the N95 hasn’t followed the N81 by introducing Feature Pack 2 style transitions to the User Interface (UI).
Unfortunately User Data Prevention is not available on the N95 series at the moment so it is essential that you back up all of your data prior to updating your device as you will loose your all of your personal data and settings!
Have you upgraded to the latest N95 firmware? If so, what improvements have you noticed?
It’s great to see that Nokia are still supporting the N95 with frequent updates, and will this flow of updates make you hold on to your N95 for a while longer until a significant device update surfaces???

Not available for my product code yet. But, from the changelog, well…
Maps 2.0: already have it, and a newer build at that than the one included in the update.
Full N-Gage: bet that’s not the updated version either that came out not long ago, so useless again.
Search 4: have already had that too, thanks.
Share Online 3: nothing new again.
…on the other hand, no visual enhancements, no new theme, no FP2 either (really, would it be so hard to implement that?), no mention of GeoTagging (GASP!), and I bet Conversations ain’t included either.
Am I happy about the fact that there’s still support for the device? Yes.
Am I happy with the things it offers? Not at all.
Thanks for the credit for the images, but a hyperlink would be polite, not just a text mention!
Cheers
Steve (AAS)
Sorry Steve! I have updated the post with a link to the article on All About Symbian!

UPDATE AVAILABLE FOR MY PHONE!! WOOHOO!!! I will update it tonight..
Hi, i updated my nokia n95 but i didnt see any major changes – just auto rotation is included which is mentioned above but auto rotation is not very fast some times it doesn’t rotate
Since I upated to v30. The GPS no longer locks. It used to take less than 10 seconds to lock onto a signal. Now it just sits there. Not sure if it locks on eventually buts is definatly more than 10seconds.
I have not had a lock yet after 2 minutes.
Upgraded my N95 yesterday……The only major change I can see is that my GPS can no longer lock onto sattelites…..
oohh great.. Good work Nokia!
when i updated my firmware my music player icon changed and it was renamed to just music, but when i restored my data from my memory card it renamed my music icon back to the old version saying music player.
How do i get the newer version that is named music and the newer icon?

Hi Does anybody know about this problem, I updated my Nokia N95, everthing went succesfull, but the auto rotate is not working at alll. pls what could be the problem? krossafeez@aol.com
Hi Kross!
I don’t have an N95 myself so I do not know the answer so hopefully somebody who does will be able to help!
If there is a glitch in the software you could try reinstalling the firmware using the Nokia Software Updater or resetting the phone using *#7370#. The default lock code if you do this is 12345 unless you have changed it!
This could resolve this issue but it will remove all data and restore your phone as if it had just came out of the factory so be sure to back up all of your data before you do!!!
Hope this helps you!
Is this thing ever gonna be available for product code 0548354??? It’s been more than two freakin’ weeks and still only 21.0.016, +!%/#&@……
You will need to activate it in the settings as it’s left off by default. The setting can be found in Settings>General>Personalisation>Display>Rotate Screen
